Who is Richard Branson

One of the world’s great adventurers both in business and in life challenges, Richard Branson is most well known for his company, ‘Virgin’ but there is much more to him than this

Richard Charles Branson

One of the richest men in the world

The originator of the world famous brand ‘Virgin’ Richard Charles Nicholas Branson is a shining personality of multiple deeds. A self styled entrepreneur who went on to become one of the richest men in the world.

Born in England on July 18, 1950, Branson started his first business venture at the tender age of 20 when he opened a shop in Oxford Street in London. Here he began by selling records and went on to form a recording company.

In no time at all, he tasted success and from then, there was no looking back. His love for people and understanding of popular desire brought him success after success. Whatever he laid his hands on turned into gold.

The Adventurer

By1993 his business turnover surpassed a billion dollars. Branson’s obsession for adventure is another facet of his personality. Sailing by boat, swimming, parachute jumping, hot air ballooning even volunteering to fly a try-cycle with wings are some of his craziest and diverse ventures that he has attempted. He also wished to circumnavigate the world in a hot air balloon. But this feat at the time of writing, remains unfulfilled.

His weird activities have also resulted in some tragic occurrences at times.

Environmentalist

He also exhibited a great sense of responsibility for the earth and its environment. His concern for environmental degradation and its effect upon the inhabitants of the worst hit areas impelled him to team up with Arctic explorer Will Steger to explore the Baffin Island in North Canada. Expeditions by these popular figures created important worldwide awareness about climate change and the impending catastrophe.

Clean up prize

In February 2007 he, along with the former U.S. Vice President Al Gore pledged a $25 million prize for cleansing the debris of the post-industrialized globe. His work for the cause of the environment and his excellence in business fetched him several honors from the world over.

The confident and flamboyant Richard Branson today has his diverse business activities spread all over the globe catering to innumerable people through his services as a client as well as a customer.

He has been a major participant in the Engage Today Conference of 2009 and continues to be a major supporter as Engage today continues into 2010 and beyond

Richard gets a knighthood

The uniqueness of the Branson style is perhaps his flair to do things differently and with elegance to bring people out of the stale condition thay often find themselves in. His exceptional enterprising abilities earned him a Knighthood in 1999. While his music store has still remained and flourished, his most popular business now is the operation of Virgin Atlantic an international airline. This apart he is into tourism, credit card, book publishing, fitness clubs and the like. Married with two children Branson still remains a dreamer and is contemplating another adventure into the field of space tourism next.
